Born at Glossop, Derbyshire.Son of James Albert and Ann. Dearnaley, of Gleno Villas, Buxton Road, Newtown New Mills, Derbyshire. H was employed in a paper Mill prior to enlisting at Buxton, Derbyshire. He was killed in action 6th October 1916, age 21 whilst in the line at the Schwaben Redoubt, Somme,

Commemorated : Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.

He is also commemorated on the New Mills War Memorial, Derbyshire.
