Born at Hednesford, Staffordshire and lived at Clay Cross. Son of William and Mary Ann Dean, of King Strret Clay Cross, Derbyshire.He was a coal miner prior to enlisting 18th October 1915 at Derby He went to France 3rd M`arch 1916 and was killed in action 25th March 1916, aged 29.when the German exploded a mine, the attacked the front line trenches at Berlincourt.

Buried: Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Mont-St. Eloi, France. Plot 1. Row C. Grave 4.
