Born 7th April 1893 at Bournemouth. Son of William Shirley and Emily Day, of Bournemouth He was eductes at StoneyHurst College, Lancashire He was a stock brokers clerk prior to Became 2nd Lieutenant 5th December 1914 He went to France 20th Decemer 1915.and joined the 10th Battalion 30th December 1915 at Ypres. He was wounded by a sniper at Lille Post, 29th April 1916. He was promoted Lieutenant 22nd December 1916 and then Acting Captain. Awarded the Military Cross London Gazette date 1st January 1917. He r was killed in action 12th October 1917 in the attack on Gravel Farm, ar Hazebrouck Belgium on the Ypres Salient.
