Became 2nd Lieutenant 5th December 1914 and joined the 10th Battalion 30th December 1915 at Ypres. He was slightly wounded by a sniper at Lille Post, 29th April 1916. He became Lieutenant 22nd December 1916 and then Acting Captain. Awarded the Military Cross London Gazette date 1st January 1917. He was ordered to a Medical Board when on leave and SOS, 27th February 1917. He rejoined the Battalion, 31st May 1917 and was killed in action 12th October 1917 in the attack on Gravel Farm, Belgium on the Ypres Salient.
