Born at Eastwood, Nottinghamshire. Son of James and Mary Ann Davis, of 29, Calverton Road, Arnold, Nottinghamshire; Husband of Lily Davis, of 87, Gedling Lane, Arnold, Nottinghamshire. Was a coal miner. He enlisted at Nottingham on 7th December 1914 and went to France on 29th August 1915. He was killed in action, on 1st September 1916, aged 33, whilst working in the trenches, near Fricourt, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
