Born in West Bromwich, Staffordshire and lived in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. son of Charles and Lois Davies, of 5 Grove Cottages, Walton Road, Brampton, Chesterfield. Husband of Mary Jane Davies, of 19 Brewery Street, Chesterfield. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Chesterfield. He died of wounds, on 1st December 1917.
