Private George Davies
Army Number: 205425 (formerly 2394 Manchester Regiment)
Battalion: 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Son of John and Mary Ann Davies, of 51, Williamson Lane, Droylsden, Lancashire. He was a Skilled Labourer prior to enlisting into the 1/9th Battalion Manchester Regiment 1st October 1914 at Ashton-under Lyne, Lancashire. He went to Gallipoli on 22nd August 1915 and served there until 28th December 1915 when he sailed to Alexandria, Egypt. After serving in Egypt, he went to France on 11th March 1917 landing at Marseilles. He was transferred to the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment on 4th April 1918 and was killed in action, 29th September 1918. whilst serving in the line near Oppy, France.
