Born in Hoyland, Yorkshire. Son of George and Henrietta Davey, of 28 Victoria Street, Warsop, Nottinghamshire. Husband of Florence Davey, of 8 Belmont Grove, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He was a clerk in a colliery office prior to enlisting on 31st May 1915 at Mansfield into the 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He went to France on 6th March 1916 and was admitted to No. 6 General Hospital, Rouen, France, on 30th April 1916 suffering from wounds to his right buttock. He was transferred to England on Hospital Ship St. David, 2nd May 1916. He returned to France on 31st December 1916 and was admitted to 38 Casualty Clearing Station at Heilly, France suffering from dysentery, 13th March 1917. He was transferred to 25 General Hospital Cammieres, France and to England on Hospital Ship Western Australia, 17th April 1917. He returned to France on 5th December 1917 and was transferred to the 2/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 11th December 1917. He died of gunshot wounds, 16th April 1918 whilst a prisoner of war.
