He was a caterer prior to enlisting on 23rd October 1915 at Bedford. He was transferred to the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment on 24th September 1917 and died from gas wounds, 18th August 1918, aged 30, at No. 2 Canadian General Hospital, Le Treport, France.
