Born and lived at Eyam, Derbyshire. Son of Uriah and Mary Jane Dane, of Eyam; Husband of Hannah Emily Dane, of Town Head, Eyam. He was a trailor man with steamer prior to enlisting on 14th October 1914 at Bakewell, Derbyshire. He was promoted Corporal 27th March 1915, appointed Lance Sergeant 20th July 1915 and promoted Sergeant 6th November 1915. He went to France on 24th February 1917 and was reported missing and prisoner of war on 21st March 1918. He died of wounds, on 14th April 1918, aged 30, in hospital at Aachen, Germany.
