Born at Bassingham, Lincolnshire. Son of John Thomas and Jane Elizabeth Dalton. Husband of Rose Ellen Dalton, of Clarkes Cottages, Bassingham. He was a labourer prior to enlisting on 1st February 1901 at Nottingham. He served in Hong Kong, Singapore and India. He went to France on 7th October 1914 and was killed in action, 5th July 1915, by German shellfire at Battalion headquarters, near Rue Du Quesnes, France.
