Private William John Dale

Battalion: 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at East Bergholt, Suffolk. Son of Abram and Esther Dale, of 11, Box Iron, East Bergholt. He was a carter prior to enlisting on 22nd February 1916 at Ipswich, Suffolk. He went to France on 6th July 1916 and was transferred to the Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, joining the 11th Battalion on 14th July 1916. He was posted to the 9th Battalion on 6th October 1916 and died of gunshot wounds, 10th October 1917, aged 21, to his left thigh and gangrene of his leg at No. 1 Australian Hospital, Rouen, France.
