Son of Mary Ann Dale, of 46 Coal Pit Lane, Nottingham. Husband of Evelyn Hobson (formerly Dale), of 8, Kirkham Place, Birley Street, Sheffield. He was a painter prior to enlisting on 11th January 1911 at Derby. He was appointed Lance Corporal 1st July 1912 and promoted Corporal 9th September 1914. He went to France on 27th December 1915 and was killed in action, on 11th March 1915, aged 23, during the Battle of Neuve Chapelle, France.
