Private Frederick William Dakin

Battalion: 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born and lived at Matlock, Derbyshire. Son of Walter Frederick and Clara Eliza Dakin, of “Clovelly,” Lime Grove Avenue, Matlock, Derbyshire. He was an apprentice engineer prior to enlisting on 13th October 1914 at Matlock. He went to France on 24th February 1917 and was posted to the 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and qualified as a Lewis Gunner. He was admitted to No. 8 General Hospital, Rouen, France 29th June 1917, suffering from bronchitis. He was transferred to England on Hospital Ship Western Australia. He returned to France on 21st November 1917 and was killed in action, 5th October 1918, aged 22, in the British attack at Guisancourt Farm, France.
