Battalion: 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Walthamstow, Essex. Son of Henry James and Caroline Daden, of 117 Tower Hamlet Road, Forestgate London. He was a greengrocer’s assistant prior to enlisting on 12th July 1908 in London. He was transferred to the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 25th August 1910. He served in India from 29th September 1911 to the 2nd October 1914. He went to France on 4th November 1914 and was killed in action, 19th January 1915, whilst serving in the trenches, being on a night working party, rebuilding breastworks near Richebourg, France.
