Son of Tom and lucy Florence Crump, of 14 Bond Street, Sneinton, Nottingham. He was a printing rotary feeder prior to enlisting on 15th May 1916 at Nottingham. He went to France on 21st February 1917 and was killed in action, 21st March 1918, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
