He was born at Shepshed, Leicestershire and lived at Stapleford, Nottinghamshire. Son of Jabez and Sarah Crowson, of Forest Street, Shepshed, Leicestershire. Husband of Fanny Crowson, of 2 Wellington Street, Stapleford. He was a Labourer prior to enlisting on 28th May 1915 at Ilkeston, Derbyshire. He went to France on 6th March 1916 and was killed in action, 3rd September 1916, in the attack at Beaumont Hamel, France during the Battle of the Somme.
