Born in Malton, Yorkshire and lived at Welburn, Yorkshire. Son of Joseph and Louisa Crowe, of Swiss Cottage, Castle Howard, Welburn, Yorkshire. He was an apprentice gardener prior to enlisting at Malton. He went to France on 29th June 1915 and died of wounds, 6th May 1916, aged 23, at No. 10 Casualty Clearing Station, Remy Siding, Belgium.

Buried: Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium. Plot 6. Row C. Grave 29.
