Born at Upper Hackney, Derbyshire and lived at 2 Dales Derbyshire. Son of Henry and Lydia Crowder of Park View, 2 Dales, Darley Dale, Derbyshire. He was a stonemason prior to enlisting on 6th May 1915 at Buxton, Derbyshire. He went to France on 6th March 1916, was appointed Lance Corporal on 1st November 1916 and was killed in action, 22nd September 1917, during the attack at Bulgar Wood, Belgium.
