Sergeant Charles William Crowder

Battalion: 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived in Newark, Nottinghamshire. Son of William & Jane Crowder, of 32 Bowbridge Road, Newark. He was a clerk prior to enlisting on 7th July 1908 at Newark. He was appointed Lance Corporal 5th January 1909 and promoted Corporal 14th February 1910. He was promoted to Sergeant on 1st October 1914 and went to France on 21st April 1915. He suffered gunshot wounds to both hands, lower jaw and right leg on 11th October 1916 and died of wounds on 12th October 1916, aged 31.
