Born at Wormhill, Derbyshire and lived at Peak Dale, Derbyshire. Son of Henry and Hannah Crossland, of 1, Small Dale, Peak Dale, Derbyshire. He was a railway porter in the goods department of the Midland Railway at Peak Forest, Derbyshire prior to enlisting at Buxton, Derbyshire. He served at Gallipoli during 1915 with the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. Then was posted to the 15th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and finally the 2/6th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He died on 2nd November 1918.
