Son of David and Elizabeth Cross, of St. Mary’s Villas, Harrow Road, Willesden, London. Brother of Mrs A. Garner, of 26, Steele Road, Harlesden, London. He was a carpenter prior to enlisting on 23rd March 1916 at Mill Hill, London. He went to France on 11th July 1916 and was posted to the 1/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, on 22nd July 1916. He suffered gunshot wounds to his left arm, on 7th May 1917 and was transferred to No. 26 General Hospital, Etaples, France and then to England. He was treated at the Red Cross Hospital, Christchurch, Dorset, from 14th May 1917 to 1st June 1917. He returned to France on 8th November 1917 and was posted to the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, on 13th November 1917. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 3rd January 1918 and died of wounds on 12th April 1918.
