Battalion: 15th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Wood Green, Middlesex and lived at 29 Millais, Bush Hill Park, Enfield, Middlesex. Son of Arthur William and Hannah Mary Cross, of Hearst, Ontario, Canada. He was a messenger for the Great Northern Railway prior to enlisting on 8th August 1917 at Mill Hill, London into the 23rd Training Battalion. He was transferred to the 1st Battalion Cambridgeshire Regiment, 14th December 1917 and then to the 4th Battalion, Norfolk Regiment, 18th December 1917. He went to France on 30th March 1918 and was transferred to the 15th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 4th April 1918. He was killed in action, 22nd April 1918, aged 18, in the British attack at Aveluy Wood, France.
