Born at Old Radford, Nottingham. Son of Henry And Eliza Cross, of 111 Sneinton Boulevard, Nottingham. Enlisted at Nottingham and went to France on 25th February 1915. He was killed in action, 1st July 1916, during the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
