Born at Stapleford, Nottinghamshire and lived at Sandiacre, Derbyshire. Son of Frederick and Elizabeth Cross, of 1 Bradley Street, Sandiacre. He was a gas works fettler prior to enlisting at Ilkeston, Derbyshire. He was killed in action, 18th May 1917, during operations at Cuba Trench near Arras.
