Captain Josiah Fenwick Sibree Croggon

Born 15th January 1881 at Grampound, Cornwall. Son of William and Eliza Lewis Croggon, of Grampound. He was educated at Mill Hill School, London and St. John’s College, Cambridge. He joined the Universities and Public Schools Brigade and eventually was given a commission into the Sherwood Foresters. He was assistant district auditor for the local government board and lived at 8 Brunswick Square, Gloucester. He was commissioned Lieutenant 29th January 1915 into the 14th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and went to France 29th May 1916. He was promoted Captain on 27th April 1916 and joined the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment on 15th June 1916. He was previously wounded at Contalmaison on 7th July 1916 during the Battle of the Somme. He died of influenza in hospital at Abbeville, France, on 18th November 1918, aged 37.
