Born and lived at Matlock, Derbyshire. Son of Wilfred and Emily Croft, of 2 Richmond Terrace New Street, Matlock. He enlisted at Chesterfield and was killed in action, 3rd September 1916, during the attack near Beaumont Hamel, France during the Battle of the Somme.

Buried : Knightsbridge Cemetery, Mesnil-Martinsart, France. Row F. Grave 14.
