Private Albert Bertie Croft

Battalion: 15th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born 19th September 1898 at Wormbridge, Shropshire. Son of John and Sarah Croft, of 13, Dukes Hill, Oakengates, Shropshire. He was a book repairer prior to enlisting 7th September 1916 at Wellington, Shropshire. He was appointed Lance corporal, 26th October 1917 and promoted Corporal 3rd December 1917. He was transferred to the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry, 29th March 1918 and went to France on 30th March 1918. He was transferred to the 15th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 9th April 1918, and was killed in action, 22nd April 1918, aged 19, in the attack at Aveluy Wood, France.
