Born 20th August 1899 at Three Bridges, Sussex. Son of Charles Henry and Emily Salome Crockford, of Hurstpierpoint, Sussex. He was a shoeing smith prior to enlisting on 23rd May 1917 at Brighton into the 52nd Training Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment. He went to France on 6th April 1918 and was transferred to the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 7th April 1918. He died, 18th August 1918, aged 18, from the effects of gas poisoning at No. 2 Canadian Hospital, Le Treport, France.
