Son of John and Eleanor Mather Crawford, of 49, Roxburgh Terrace, Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear. He was commissioned into the 13th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 30th April 1915. He joined the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 22nd September 1916 and was wounded on the 25th/26th September in the attack on Zollern Trench during the Battle of Thiepval Ridge, during the Battle of the Somme. He died of these wounds on 27th September 1916, aged 21.
