Born at Brampton, Chesterfield, Derbyshire and lived at Milford, Derbyshire. Son of William and Hannah Cranfield, of 11 Lower Hipper Street, Chesterfield. Husband of Maria Cranfield. He was a pork butcher prior to enlisting at Chesterfield. He went to France on 9th December 1915 and was killed in action, on 15th September 1916, during the attack near Guillemont, France during the Battle of the Somme.
