Born at Ilkeston, Derbyshire and lived at Swadlincote, Derbyshire. Son of William Eley and Clara Craddock, of Ilkeston, Derbyshire; Husband of Kathleen Muriel Craddock (Nee Hibbs), of Long Whins, Filey, Yorkshire. He was a school attendance officer prior to enlisting at Derby. He was killed in action on 22nd March 1918, aged 38, whilst serving in the line near the Curlu/Peronne Road, France.
