Born at East Stoke, near Newark, Nottinghamshire. Son of Thomas Islip and Annie and Coy, of Bulcote, Burton Joyce, Nottinghamshire. He was a farm labourer prior to enlisting on 12th October 1914 at Southwell, Nottinghamshire. He went to France 25th June 1915 and was killed in action, 30th July 1915, aged 19, during the German attack on the British positions at Hooge, Belgium
