Born at Hartshorne, Derbyshire and lived at 3 Atherton Cottages, Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire. Son of Henry Cox, of 3, New Eaton, Long Eaton, Derbyshire. He was a Coal Miner prior to enlisting at Sutton-In-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. He went to France 29th August 1915 and was killed in action, 2nd February 1917, aged 26, whilst repairing the trenches near Loos, France.
