Born at Nottingham. Son of Thomas Stretton and Emma Cox, of Camelot Street, Ruddington, Nottinghamshire. He was a porter prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He went to France on 8th September 1914. He was killed in action, on 7th December 1914, aged 31, by a German sniper, whilst serving in the trenches near Rue-de-Bois, France.
