Bornt at Twickenham, Middlesex. Husband of Ada Rebecca Cox, of 34, Montpelier Street, Brighton. He was a labourer prior to enlisting on 16th August 1902 at Stratford, London. He served in Hong Kong and Singapore. He went to France on 11th December 1914 and was appointed Colour Sergeant on 25rth January 1915. and promoted Company Sergeant Major 9th May 1915. He was awarded the Military Cross London Gazette on 24th June 1916: For consistent gallantry and good work since December 1914, he has frequently been noted for fine work, notably when he volunteered and brought up ammunition and rations under heavy fire and when after all the officers of his company had become casualties, he led his company in a counter-attack on the enemy: He was Killed in action 5th July 1916, aged 36, in the attack on the German positions at La Boisselle, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
