Born at Stivington, Bedfordshire and resided at Newark, Nottinghamshire. Son of William Mark and Bertha Adelaide Cox, of Main Street, Lowdham, Nottinghamshire. Husband of Florence Cox, of Swiss Cottage, Bleasby, Nottinghamshire. Was a railway porter for the Midland Railway Company. He enlisted on 7th August 1914 at Newark, Nottinghamshire. Went to France on 25th February 1915 and was promoted Acting-Corporal 26th April 1915. On 31st July 1915, he received wounds to his face and shoulder and was promoted to Sergeant 24th August 1915. He was killed in action whilst in the line at the Hohenzollern Redoubt, France, 14th October 1915, aged 23.
