Private Cyril Cowdell

Battalion: 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Caistor, Lincolnshire. Son of Thomas and Jane Cowdell, of 2, Princess Street, Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire. He was a labourer prior to enlisting on 30th September 1916 at Scunthorpe. He was transferred to the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and went to France on 24th December 1917. He was killed in action, 27th May 1918, aged 20 whilst the battalion was in a retiring fight from Montagne de Guyancourt, France.
