Born in Nottingham and lived at 175, Birken Avenue, Hyson Green, Nottingham. Husband of Harriet Coupland, of 64, Ortzen Street, Radford, Nottinghamshire. He was a Carriage Cleaner prior to enlisting on 3rd May 1902 at Derby. He went to France on 8th September 1914. He was admitted to the 18th Casualty Clearing Station at Lapugnoy, France, suffering from an abscess on his right hip, 5th March 1916. He was transported to the 16th General Hospital at Le Treport, France and on to England aboard Hospital Ship Brighton, 15th March 1916. He returned to France on 31st August 1916 and died of wounds on 10th October 1916, aged 31.
