Born at Bradwell near Great Yarmouth, Norfolk and lived at Danesmoor, Derbyshire. Son of Mrs. Mardle, of Frost Cottage, Danesmoor, Chesterfield. Husband of Alice Hargreaves, of Southside Cottages Danesmoor. He was a colliery stocker prior to enlisting at Clay Cross, Derbyshire. He died of wounds 15th October 1918, aged 33.

Buried: Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium. Plot 35. Row A. Grave 5.
