Born 18th February 1897 at East Ham, London. Son of James and Amy Jane Cornell, of 65, Katherine Road, East Ham. He was a grocer’s porter prior to enlisting on 28th May 1915 at Woolwich. into the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry. He went to France on 7th March 1917 and was transferred back to England underage, 17th May 1917. He was transferred to the Bedfordshire Regiment, 5th July 1917. He returned to France on 2nd April 1918 and was transferred to the 15th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 4th April 1918. He was killed in action, 14th October 1918, at age 18, in the attack at Cable Copse Belgium.
