Second Lieutenant John Stanley Corless

He was born on 25th May 1890 at Poulton Le Fylde, Lancashire. Son of William Bell Corless and Margaret Corless, of Ulcrigg, Lancashire. He was educated at Lancaster Royal Grammar School and Manchester University. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Royal Lancaster Regiment on 5th September 1914. He went to France on 13th January 1916 and was transferred to the Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 17th December 1917. He joined the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 23rd April 1918 at Halifax Camp, Ypres, Belgium. He was killed in action, 17th September 1918, by German shellfire near Moncy La Gache, France.
