Born and lived at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Son of Samuel and Ruth Cooper, of 22 Tapton Terrace, Chesterfield. He was a number taker in the traffic and coaching section of Midland Railway, Barrow Hill, Derbyshire prior to enlisting at Chesterfield. He was killed in action, on 30th November 1917, during the German shelling of the line near Premy Chapel, Marcoing, France.
