Son of Joseph Pollitt Cooper and Sarah Cooper, of 12, St. James Road, Leicester. He was an Articled Clerk prior to being commissioned into the 7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 2nd July 1915 as Second Lieutenant. He joined B Company of the Battalion at Drouvin, France, on 24th October 1915. He was appointed Grenade Officer in the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment in 1916 and was accidentally killed, 17th May 1916, aged 23, by a rifle grenade during practice near Humbercamps, France.
