Born at Southwell, Nottinghamshire. Son of Edwin and Ellen Cooling of 3 Lucas Yard, Pleasley, Nottinghamshire. He was a cotton spinner prior to enlisting at Mansfield. he went to France on 29th August 1915 and died of wounds, 5th July 1917.
