Born at Norton Disney, Lincolnshire. Son of Annie E. Cooling, of Norton Disney; Husband of Mary Jane Cooling, of 44, Portland Street, Pleasley, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He was a boiler fireman in a colliery prior to enlisting at Mansfield. He served in Gallipoli during 1915 with the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He went to France and was transferred to the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He died of wounds, 14th September 1916, aged 32, at No. 2 Stationary Hospital, Abbeville, France.
