Son of Maria Cooke, of 41, Albert Street, Ilkeston, Derbyshire. He was a wood turner prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He went to France 4th November 1914 with the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was later transferred to the 2/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was killed in action, 26th September 1917, in the attack at Otto Farm, near Gravenstafel, Belgium.
