Private Francis Daniel Conroy

Battalion: 1/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Derby. Son of James and Harriett Conroy, of 72 Eagle Street, Derby. He was a bakery assistant prior to enlisting on 1st November 1915 at Derby. He went to France on 22nd April 1916 and was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
The Commonwealth War Grave Commission shows the surname as “Convoy”.
