Born and lived at Derby. Son of George and Margaret Collins, of 12 Southwood Street, Crewton, Derbyshire. He was a pork butcher’s labourer prior to enlisting on 28th February 1913 at Derby. He went to France on 25th February 1915 and was appointed Lance Corporal on 17th May 1916. He was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
