He was commissioned Second Lieutenant Sherwood Foresters 6th January 19104. He was promoted Lieutenant 24th March 1906 and Captain 6th December 1909. He went to France 28th February 1915 and was wounded at Little Kemmel, 17th February 1916. He was killed in action, 30th June 1917, whilst serving in the line near Cite St. Pierre near Arras.
